Reseller hosting you can review, one change at a time

Portward 2.9.26 is a Windows 10/11 agent that connects over SSH to a VPS you rent, runs each update, firewall and backup step and shows every action as a card with its real result.

Reseller basics

Reseller hosting on a VPS you administer

Reseller hosting means renting capacity from a provider and selling separate hosting accounts to your own clients under your own brand, within the provider's limits and terms. The capacity can come from a reseller plan or from a VPS that you administer yourself. Portward covers the second. It connects over SSH, runs the commands you approve and shows each result as a card. Version 2.9.26 is the current release.

01

Run a first VPS setup with SSH keys

A new server needs an update, a normal user and key login before anything else. Step 1 is the update: Portward runs your update command with Shell and shows the exit code on a card. Step 2 is the user and the keys, where read_file opens a copy of the SSH configuration and edit_file proposes the change as a diff. In Ask first mode the agent pauses before each action that changes something, so you read the diff and accept it. Never lock yourself out. Test key login from a second session before you switch password login off.

Tool trace
Shell your update command → exit 0
read_file ssh-config-copy.txt → loaded
edit_file ssh-config-copy.txt → +2
02

Best reseller hosting: compare the contract terms

No tool can name a winner, because the answer sits in the provider's own contract. Portward uses web_search to find the terms pages you ask about and http_get to read one page at a time, then write_file saves a comparison table in your working folder: resource limits per account, backup policy, support hours, uptime terms, whether you can move accounts out, and the abuse rules. Compare at least 2 contracts side by side. Read the sources. You open the source pages yourself and decide, and you check the tax and legal duties of selling hosting in your country before you start.

Tool trace
web_search reseller terms of service → 5 results
http_get provider terms page → 1 page
write_file notes/contract-compare.txt → saved
03

Set up a VPS firewall you can test

A firewall should open only the ports your services need. Portward runs your firewall command with Shell to list the current rules, uses read_file on a copy of the rules file and proposes the change with edit_file as a diff. Ask first pauses before the step that alters the rules. Test before you close. After the change, open a second SSH session and confirm that you can still log in, and only then end the first one. These 3 checks keep the work reviewable: list the rules, apply one change, test from a new session.

04

Back up the VPS and test a restore

A backup counts only when a restore works. Test the restore. Shell runs your backup command and reports its real exit code, write_file records the date and the result in a log file in the working folder, and task can run independent checks of disk space, memory and service status as parallel sub-agents. Cron repeats the check prompt on a schedule, so you read 3 short cards each morning instead of logging in. Restore on a spare copy, read the result card and note the outcome in the log before you rely on the backup.

How Portward differs from a chat assistant

Portward 2.9.26 acts. Each action becomes a card with its real output, so you review what happened on the server instead of trusting a description of what should happen.

How to start with Portward

  1. Download the setup program, about 34 MB, from this site and install it on Windows 10 or 11.
  2. Connect a model: a cloud provider endpoint, a model on your PC or the built-in model.
  3. Choose a working folder and, for a server you own, the SSH environment.
  4. Pick Ask first or Plan only and describe one task, for example an update with a disk check.

Who uses it and when

Freelancers who look after a client's VPS use Portward for routine updates and checks. Clients ask why self hosted email is a hassle, and the honest answer is IP reputation plus a long list of DNS records. Keep a written log.

Small agencies that resell hosting to their own clients use it to keep accounts tidy. If you are weighing self hosting, the email server design starts with MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records and a reverse DNS name for the sending IP address, which Portward can check from a copy of your zone file. Every change gets a note.

Developers and students who run a first server on Windows 10 or 11 use Plan only to read a plan before anything runs. An email server for outgoing mail only still needs SPF and a matching reverse DNS name, and the plan lists both before you approve a step. Nothing runs in Plan only.

Questions about VPS and reseller work

What is reseller hosting?

A reseller rents hosting capacity from a provider and sells separate hosting accounts to their own clients under their own brand, within the provider's limits and terms. The capacity can come from the provider's reseller plan or from a VPS that you administer yourself. Read the terms.

Is zarahost.com the official Portward website?

Yes, zarahost.com is the official Portward website. The setup program is the original build, and you can compare its SHA-256 checksum with the published manifest before you run it. Verify before you run. Questions about the app go through the Send feedback button inside Portward.

How do you start a reseller hosting business?

Three checks come first: the provider's contract terms, the tax and legal duties of selling hosting in your country, and a server you can administer. Read all three first. Portward helps with the third by running reviewable steps over SSH on a server you own.

What does a first VPS server setup include?

A first set-up has 8 parts: the system update, a normal user, key login tested before password login is switched off, a firewall with only the ports you need, time sync, automatic updates, backups with a restore test and basic checks of disk, memory and services. Keep a second session open.

Where do my prompts and files go?

A cloud model receives the prompt, including the text of any file the agent reads, while a local model keeps everything on your PC. Portward itself sends no telemetry, and secrets in tool output are redacted before they reach the model. Choose accordingly.

Can Portward work on my server over SSH?

Yes. Portward has an SSH environment in which Shell commands run on your own server, while file tools such as read_file, grep and edit_file work in the chat's working folder. Every step that changes the server appears as a card, and Ask first pauses before it. Use it only on servers you rent or own.

Are the results always right?

No. The agent can misread a log or choose a wrong setting, so you read every diff and result card and test the outcome yourself. In Ask first mode each change waits for your approval, and in Plan only nothing runs until you switch mode.

Get started

Try one reviewed task on your own server

Download the 34 MB setup program for Windows 10 or 11, connect a model, choose a working folder and describe one task. Start small. Read the card, accept the diff and note the result.
